For Easter, Owen got a new haircut, and chicken pox (a reaction to the vaccine he got 3 days earlier). We left church early when the Dr. in our ward confirmed the disease. It looked like nasty bug bites to us, especially since he had a nasty spider bite earlier in the week. Abby, it should all be cleared up by the time you get here.

How adorable! I’m sorry about the chicken pox. Guess the vaccine is no guarantee.

He looks darling! I was under the impression that the chicken pox vaccine is a “dead” vaccine or something like that, meaning you can’t get chicken pox from it. That may sound stupid but I swear that’s what my doctor told me.

Poor Owen. That just goes to show you.
I just felt like saying that.

Goes to show what? Is your name Joann? Abby, the way I understand it, the vaccine is “alive,” just such a small dose that it doesn’t usually cause an outbreak. And even with the vaccine, kids can still get chickenpox. My friend’s 4 kids were all vaccinated, and all 4 got chickenpox years later. All very mild cases though.

I think the long and short of it is that the chicken pox had an agenda. And it was not to be stopped by some half-dead vaccine. Anyway, chicken pox as a small child is good because it protects one from shingles later in life, right?

yes, I hope so.
